North West crowned winners of 2024 Republic Bank Relay Festival

Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, May 22, 2024: The 2024 Republic Bank Relay Festival took place on Sunday May 19, in partnership with the National Association of Athletics Administrations of Trinidad and Tobago (NAAATT). This festival comprised of athletes from four zones throughout the country, namely, North West, North East, South Central and Tobago. Athletes competed in both male and female relay races of different age categories, with the winner being determined by the team with the most points. When all was said and done, it was the North West team who emerged as winners.

With 2024 being an Olympic year, the discipline of track and field is at the forefront of the sporting world and that was certainly reflected in the performances from the athletes and support from the crowd.

Delivering remarks on behalf of the Bank was Michelle Johnson, Manager- SME/Business Segments who emphasized the importance for all to not only strive for individual success, but also for everyone to relish working together. Johnson stated, “Whether you are the first, second, third runner or the anchor, you try to overcome all challenges faced, together. In the end, everyone works as a team to get the job done.”

Republic Bank’s sponsorship of this event falls under its Power to Make a Difference (PMAD) Corporate Social Responsibility programme. This Relay Festival joins the likes of the Republic Bank Laventille Netball League and Republic Cup Youth Football National League and many others in highlighting the Bank’s commitment to youth development through sport.

The Republic Bank Relay Festival will be followed by the National Junior and Open Championships, carded to take place from June 28-30.
