Several Grenadian Students Benefit from the Republic Bank Bursary Programme

St. George’s, Grenada; January 21, 2021:Republic Bank is proud to support 18 deserving students with financial assistance, as they pursue higher learning, under its Bursary Programme.

The students, who are enrolled with the University of the West Indies - Open Campus, were awarded bursaries amounting to $17,058.60 to assist with tuition for Semester II of the Academic Year 2020/21. Twenty four (24) students received financial assistance in Semester I, totaling $22,744.80. Overall, $39,803.40 was paid in bursaries for the 2021 academic year, and bears testament to the Bank’s commitment to improving the lives of our citizens.

Commenting on the initiative, Clifford Bailey, General Manager – Operations at Republic Bank, said: “The Scholarship and Bursary Programme forms part of the Bank’s social investment vehicle, “Power to Make a Difference”. It is directly aligned to the Power to Learn, one of four pillars on which the programme is founded. We see education as one avenue to empower our youth, who, in turn, contribute meaningfully to economic development and society, in general.”

The Republic Bank Bursary was introduced in 2007 to supplement the Scholarship programme and, has, to date, helped over 125 students attain a first degree. The Scholarship is offered to assist one student at a time with full time studies at any of the three UWI Campuses in Barbados, Trinidad or Jamaica. On average, $60,000 is expended each year, to supplement the Scholarship and Bursary Programme.
