Republic Bank Launches Phase Five of "Power to Make a Difference", onboarding 52 Partners and Pledging TT$125 Million to CSR Programme

Port of Spain, Trinidad, November 27, 2023: Republic Bank has announced the launch of its "Power to Make a Difference" Corporate Social Responsibility programme for 2023-2024 with the theme of “In the Business of Doing Good”. This marks the fifth consecutive phase of the programme, which has been a cornerstone of the bank's commitment to social responsibility for the past two decades.

To celebrate this significant milestone, Republic Bank held an event at Republic House on November 22, 2023. The event brought together key stakeholders, partners, and representatives from various sectors of society to underscore the bank's unwavering dedication to making a positive impact. By collaborating with these partners, Republic Bank aims to leverage collective resources and expertise to address key societal challenges.

Through the "Power to Make a Difference" programme, Republic Bank seeks to contribute to the development and well-being of the communities it serves. At the launch, the bank pledged TT$125 million over the next five years towards initiatives focused on health and wellness, poverty alleviation, sustainability, entrepreneurship, arts, sport, education and culture. Over the course of year one, the Bank will donate TT$25 million to support the notable work of its partners.

Speaking at the launch, P. Vic Salickram, Vice President at Republic Bank, encouraged businesses to make a significant difference in society including and beyond their economic contributions. He remarked “Our Power to Make a Difference programme is at the heart of what we do at Republic. We are driven to do good by doing better – both in the service of others and in our support of causes that lead to positive change in our society. We do so through financial support. However, what sets Republic apart, is that we don’t only provide funding but it is also crucial to us to give our time – to be hands-on in the assistance we provide to our partner organizations and to truly engage with the people we hope to help.”

A total of 52 partners were welcomed to Republic Bank's CSR programme this year, including various non-profit organizations and community groups. Originally launched in Trinidad and Tobago, the "Power to Make a Difference" programme has grown in scope and reach. Today, it extends beyond the borders of Trinidad and Tobago, having been launched in several other territories where Republic Bank operates. This expansion reflects the bank's commitment to leveraging its resources and expertise to enhance the quality of life in the communities it serves across the Caribbean.

As one of the region’s leading financial institutions, the Bank has been at the forefront of driving positive change through the Power to Make a Difference for over 20 years. The programme’s longevity and scope underpin the Bank’s vision for stronger, more resilient communities and form a perfect foundation for its Environmental, Sustainability, and Governance (ESG) targets.

The Power to Make a Difference programme is grounded on four key pillars: the power to learn, succeed, help and care. These pillars represent the core values that guide our efforts to create meaningful and lasting impact in society.
