Contactless Card Information

Contactless means that you can use your credit card, once it is “contactless enabled”, to pay for goods and services without having to insert or swipe your card at a point-of-sale terminal of a merchant whose terminal can accept contactless cards.

You would know if your card is contactless, as you would see the contactless symbol on your card.

You can also ask the cashier if the terminal accepts contactless cards.

To use a contactless card, you simply place or tap your contactless card approximately 2 inches from the merchant’s terminal screen, and your transaction would be processed.

Contactless transactions are safe and secure as they use the same technology that is used for Chip and PIN transactions, the only difference is that you have the advantage of not having to give anyone your card to process your transaction.

There is usually a limit attached to contactless transactions and it may vary from bank to bank. Currently the daily limit for contactless transactions, is TT$300. This means that you can either do one single transaction for TT$300, or multiple smaller transactions that add up to TT$300, in one day.

If your contactless card is lost or stolen, you should immediately contact our Customer Care Centre at 627-3348 and block your card using your RepublicOnline or RepublicMobile account.

Contactless cards are easy, fast, convenient and safe to use. Contactless cards allow you to avoid having other persons handle your card when paying for your goods and services, allows you to pay and check out faster and doesn’t force you to remember a PIN (Personal Identification Number) to complete a purchase.

Yes, you can track your contactless transactions by using our RepublicAlerts feature on our internet and mobile banking. These will alert you on every transaction that occurs when they occur, via e mail. Your contactless payments will also be displayed on your monthly statements along with your other transactions.

No, you can use your Chip and PIN feature on your card to do any transaction you wish to do.

Remember, there are limits to the value of a transaction that can be used for contactless transactions, so once it’s over this limit, you would have to use the Chip and PIN method, by inserting your card in the merchant’s terminal or swiping your card.
